Does Your Insurance Pay for Your Massage?

5-Step Check List for HSA/FSA (and now also MSA!) reimbursement:

  1. Talk with your medical provider (Primary Physician, Chiropractor, etc.) about why you believe massage therapy and/or myofascial release will benefit your health and wellness. Being specific about your reason helps. Are you seeking relief from neck pain, back pain, headaches, TMJ, sciatica, stress levels, etc? If they agree that massage and/or myofascial release would be beneficial, ask for a prescription so that you can receive reimbursement for these services. Some people will skip steps 1 and 2. While you may be able have them pay without these steps, we recommend them to avoid potential future frustrations.

  2. Verify with your insurance company that massage therapy and/or myofascial release is a reimbursable expense. Please mention that you have a prescription for massage therapy/myofascial release. Having the prescription makes massage therapy/myofascial release a “medical necessity.”

  3. Call us and schedule your session! Our Front Desk Staff will help you find the massage therapist that fits your needs. Once you decide the best therapist for you, we will schedule the appointment.

  4. Receive your session. Arrive at your first session early to fill out paperwork necessary. This allows your massage therapist to customize your session to your exact needs. Our therapist will discuss your goals for the session and provide therapy needed to help you reach your goals. During your session be sure to communicate with your massage therapist if anything feels uncomfortable or weird.

  5. Payment

    1. FSA Submit your receipt. After paying for your session, please verify with us that you are using a FSA account for payment of the session. We will provide you with a receipt for the session you received. This receipt will be submitted to your insurance company, once approved, they will send you a reimbursement check.

    2. HSA Pay with your HSA debit card. We are registered with Square as an approved medical provider. This means we can accept your HSA debit card directly – no need to withdraw money from your account ahead of time.
