Active Myofascial Therapy (AMT) ~ The Diamond Method™ is a highly effective Neuromuscular Reeducation, Manual and Movement Based Therapy. It’s not massage, not physical therapy, and not exercise; however it does use techniques from all of these modalitites, plus a variety of other disiplines. This combination gives YOU the best results in the shortest amount of time.
AMT is for you if you have:
- Sprains, Tears, and Spasms including Whiplash and Sciatica
- Repetitive Stress Injuries (R.S.I.) including Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- T.M.J. Disorder
- Headaches and Migraines
- Leg Pain including Shin Splints, Achilles’ Tendonitis, and Plantar Fascitis
- Restricted Joint or Muscle Motion
Why the name Active Myofascial Therapy
1) In reference to the fact that the person receiving the work is active
rather than passive
; during both the AMT session and also the person is active through an individually designed movement/exercise program of movements that we call ‘Actions’.
2) Because AMT focuses on the action
the muscle makes during movement.
Latin word for muscle
Connective tissue that covers every muscle, bone, tendon, organ, etc. It also lies under the skin and allows free movement of the skin over deeper structures.
What can I expect from my Active Myofascial Therapy session?
After the initial assessment of your current condition, therapy sessions are structured as either a “Targeted”
session (approximately 30 minutes) to address only one area or complaint. Or an “Expanded”
session (approximately 60 minutes) if your condition has more than one area that needs focus or if your condition is more complex.
In most cases you will want to schedule for the AMT Accelerated Package
which consists of a Comprehensive Assessment/Evaluation plus four
Expanded Sessions. The Accelerated Package will take care of most conditions by the last session as long as you also do your ‘homework’ of Actions and posural corrections ~and~ you hve applied the correct holds and Actions.
History of AMT
AMT was founded by Hawaiian Rehabilitation Therapist, Irene Diamond, RT more than 25 years ago. AMT is a 7-Step System of therapy that Ms.Diamond developed initially as a way to help her recover from a spinal cord injury she sustained at the age of 15. Over the years, AMT has quickly become the go-to technique for therapists who want to give fast relief to people in pain.
